What are the optimum sizes for my images?
The get the best navigation speeds happening for a wide range of computers you'll need to watch your sizes, both resolution and files sizes.
If you have Photoshop then you will have had some experience in making copies of your images web ready. This means a combination of reducing the resolution/size of your image and then saving them using the "Save for Web" function.
HOW TO DO THIS
1. Reducing them to aproximately 1024 pixels as the largest dimension in any direction will give a good looking image and reduce the amount of memory taken.
2. Save using the "Save for Web" function and choose the option to display 4 images. Select the right hand top image and then in the Quality settings area choose jpeg as the file type and decrease the quality to anything between 45 and 80.
Try different settings between these looking to see how it affects your image. You can drag the image around inside the box to check different areas and also increase the magnification in a really tiny little box down in the left hand corner if you feel the need to view it in greater detail.
Images between 300k and 500k are ideal and still look sharp, but up to 1mb is ok.
If you don't have any image processing software I can recommend downloading and installing PICASA, free from Google.
A great product that'll automatically search your computer for images. You can also add folders or libraries of your images to it.
Save copies of your images individually or as a selection and reduce their size in terms of resolution and quality and save them into an
other folder, so they don't get mixed up with the originals.
Using these compressed and resized image files will greatly speed your uploads into the Exhibition Creator as well as your clients speed to download and fly around your exhibition. So it is really worthwhile.
